{"id":1289,"date":"2022-10-29T20:59:33","date_gmt":"2022-10-29T20:59:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/uown.org\/UOWN-Wordpress\/?page_id=1289"},"modified":"2023-02-13T20:05:17","modified_gmt":"2023-02-13T20:05:17","slug":"summit2023","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/uown.org\/UOWN-Wordpress\/summit\/summit2023\/","title":{"rendered":"2023 Summit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3>Upper Oconee Science and Policy Summit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Upper Oconee Watershed Network in partnership with UGA River Basin Center, UGA Office of Sustainability, ACC Stormwater,&nbsp; and ACC Water Conservation will host the fourth biennial Upper Oconee Watershed Policy Summit.&nbsp; &#8220;Exploring the Intersection of Science and Policy in the Upper Oconee Watershed&#8221; will occur on <strong>Wednesday February 15, 2023.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The summit will bring together scientists, policymakers, activists, students, managers, and community members from across the region to explore the intersection between water resource science, management, and policy in the Upper Oconee Watershed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Register for<strong> FREE <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScVsFNr71gUHagl_t0nvjZK11R2_LSX_FsgWKE_ASpMPlWBfw\/viewform\">Here<\/a>! The deadline to submit an abstract has been <strong>extended<\/strong> to February 5, 2023. There is no deadline for registration.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oral presentations will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Educate attendees on the water resource activities occurring in the watershed<\/li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Highlight the integral connection between science and policies and management<\/li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Identify research and policy needs as well as opportunities for collaboration and action in the watershed<\/li><li>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Introduce decision makers and managers to some of the brightest student researchers at UGA<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Aquatic research programs can yield valuable knowledge to inform policies and management decisions. &nbsp;Frequently, much is lost in the translation between scientific research and policy development.
