Bruno Giri - President


Bruno was born and raised in North Carolina. He attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, where he studied biology and anthropology. After completing his B.S. in 1993, he joined the Peace Corps and served in Nepal as a fisheries extension volunteer for two years. He returned to the US where he continued his studies in fisheries at Auburn University with an M.S. degree. Since then, he has spent time living and working in Atlanta and Athens, GA. He enjoys volunteering with a variety of local community organizations and traveling strange places in the world. Contact Bruno.


Peter Norris - Vice Chair


Peter grew up in Southern California and developed a love of (salt) water early. He has paddled many rivers in California and the Northwest. He has Bs. in Computer Science from Texas A&M and M.A. in Education from SDSU and a M.A. in Nonprofit Organizations from UGA. By day Peter is an IT Manager at the College of Education, UGA. Peter spends his spare time volunteering for local events, cycling, hiking, and paddling. He hopes to lead an organization protecting one of our most precious resources, water. Contact Peter.

Mike Lord


Mike grew up here in GA and has had a long love affair with our local rivers. He began kayaking as a teenager and his passion for rivers led him to become a river guide in Colorado and Utah. He loves to travel internationally and spent four year living in Australia. He has worked as a zookeeper, raft guide, bug farmer, grape picker, coffee packer and barista, to name just a few. He recently returned to GA and received a Masters degree in International Policy and a certificate in Environmental Ethics from UGA. He has led several local river cleanups and is particularly interested in establishing river trails. He believes that river recreation is one of the best ways to inspire conservation. When not working to protect our local rivers you can find him on the water. In 2012 he solo paddled the entire Altamaha River and can't wait to do it again. He's always game to lead a river trip, so let's go paddling! 



Kate Mowbray
     

Kate Mowbray has been a naturalist at Sandy Creek Nature Center since June 2004. She's and Adopt-A-Stream trainer and has taught biological, chemical, and bacterial workshops for years. Sharing nature with others is a passion. You can find her playing in the mud, climbing a tree, looking for bigfoot or enjoying a leisurely stroll on a trail at work and off.

Hunter Jones


Hunter is a Georgia native and third year law student at the University of Georgia. Her legal studies focus on environmental law as she intends to pursue a career in public interest environmental policy. In addition to her academic studies, Hunter has interned with Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and Southern Environmental Law Center. In her spare time, Hunter enjoys running, hiking, floating the Broad, reading, and collecting water samples at UOWN's quarterly monitoring events.
