What is a Watershed?

A watershed is an area of land from which water, sediment, and dissolved materials drain to a common point along a stream, wetland, lake or river.

Where's My Creek

Did you know that Athens-Clarke County contains 17 sub-watersheds? Or that there are two rivers and 15 creeks within county borders? Do you know the name of the creek in your neighborhood?

Where's My Creek encourages residents to learn about their local watershed and individuals can do to improve it. We have created an easy to read information sheet for every sub-watershed in Athens-Clarke County. To identify your local creek, download this detailed map. Then go to the Where's My Creek page to download the appropriate information sheet.

If you see us at a festival or event, stop by and we will give you a free refrigerator magnet to remind you of your creek and to encourage taking responsibility for its health. Water is precious; let's not allow ignorance to destroy this vital resource.
